So I like to try out things just for the fun of it. It wasn’t what I needed very often so I haven’t followed it’s progress.Ĭapture365 wasn’t even on my radar, I’ll check it out! Last time is used Notability it really felt like a substandard note application with one absolutely killer trick, recording and time-based notes.

It was my favorite app ever for years but it just doesn’t do what I need and they make Cultured Code look like development speed demons in comparison.ĭrafts was an oversight, I use it every day all day long but it’s typically where text starts for me, not long-term notes in my workflow, I should have included it! I can live without backlinks, knowledge graphs and transclusion but it doesn’t even have tables yet. I did mention Bear in the previous comment and I still think it’s the best designed note app ever created, unfortunately its development is glacial and it’s years behind everything else. I personally link to media stored in DT all the time in my note system, at the time I was using Keep It that was Bear but I’ve now switched to Obsidian, for that workflow I feel like either DT or Keep It complements a dedicated note app really well. The only reason I included DEVONthink is that I know they’ve really been working on that section of the app. I actually don’t use DT as a note app directly and I used Keep It the same way for a while and never really tried writing in it, I’m not sure how good it was. Keep It is awesome and it feels like a better designed UX but a less powerful app for collecting things along the same lines of DEVONthink.

Saying that, most of the above have free versions. My life got better when I stopped trying to jimmy everything on the cheap with exclusively opensource/freeware. It's at least worth a few quid per month. But this is your external brain you're paying for. I get it - it's code on a screen and has no physical deliverables etc. If it's not smooth for you to use, it's almost useless.Ī note on paid vs free software: There seems to be a culture on reddit that nobody ever wants to pay for software. It doesn't matter how sophisticated your system is. Here's my exact workflow to use these systems for maximum productivity.įor me, minimising friction is the big driver. I've only scratched the surface here, there's at least 20 more that deserve honourable mentions. I'm watching them closely.ġ0) Meta: A fresh take on spacial compression: creating a visual housing for your notes on an infinite-canvas Using it feels like you've cleared your mental cache - simple but powerful interface for note taking with backlinks, daily notes and graph view.ĩ) Innos Note: one that I'm extremely excited about: owned by a project with a powerful mindmapping engine, this could be my personal holy grail for the way I think. WYSIWYG editor, command bar, blazing fast, and you own all your data.Ĩ) Reflect.app if Obsidian and Apple Notes had a baby. No other note taking app comes close for this.īeautiful, minimal, markdown-based editor with backlinks. Mindnode is totally frictionless and a pleasure to use.īeing able to spacially compress data is like having prosthesis for your memory.

here's why I moved from evernote to apple notes.ĥ) Mindnode: I've tried every mindmapping software out there. While it lacks backlinking and mindmapping, there's nothing faster. MacOS monterey introduced collaboration, tags, quick-note. Has a learning curve but super powerful.Ĥ) Apple notes. It's what Notion should have grown up to be, if it didn't fall in with the naughty cloud-based boys from the other street.ģ) Obsidian: HIGHLY extensible, markdown-based with graphical backlinking and mac-based.

Now has a mac app.Ģ) Craft docs: Offline-first app with a visual focus, clean formatting. There is a learning curve, but once your ideas start flirting with each other they will start having great sex.
